Ms Frizzle Gifts for Teachers
Who doesn't like Ms Frizzle? I grew up watching the original TV show, but now my kids are getting to experience her afresh with Netflix new series "The Magic School Bus Rides Again." Instead of just randomly looking for science-themed teacher gifts, I challenged myself to find ideas that pertained only to the themes of the latest episodes. I was surprised by how difficult the assignment turned out to be. I liked the provocation, though, and hope that you'll enjoy the list I've created for you. These gifts are perfect for the "Ms Frizzle" teacher in your life.
The first episode says good-bye to the Ms Frizzle of the past and introduces a new "Ms Frizzle" character. The kids wonder how the change will effect their class "ecosystem." In honor of the old-school Ms Frizzle, I chose this shirt sporting her motto.
The second episode plays with the concept of wind and how it moves over objects. I couldn't think of anything that represented wind better than windmills. These earrings would be a subtle way to introduce a unit on alternative power sources, wind, or weather.
Teachers have a lot of things to keep track of throughout the day: pens, whiteboard markers, whistles, dice, tiny toys, random math counter, hall passes, etc. This apron will help them keep organized with all of it's pockets and fun fishy pattern. The fish are a nod to episode three, where the children learn about functioning in a school of tiny fish.
I really like the texture of this Lava Rock bracelet. It reminds me of the Flintstones. Episode four is about rocks, weather, erosion, and lava. Other types of gemstone or rocks would be appropriate for this theme, as well.
Episode five looks at magnets and polarization. What else could I have chosen except a set of magnet earrings?
In the next episode, the kids go inside the human body to look at an allergic reaction and how the body fights back. Since a medical ID bracelet would be strange to give someone as a gift, I thought this adorable microscope necklace would be much better.
I'm a full-time skirt-wearer, so I am always on the look out of new skirt ideas. This camo skirt is so fun for the camper/hunter who loves to wear lots of extra fabric around her legs. Paired with a bright orange coat to complete the look. The skirt is tied to episode seven, where the kids play hide-and-seek with animal camouflage.
Episode 8 talks about the three stages of matter for water molecules. This molecule necklace is so interesting that it's sure to start some good discussions about chemistry everywhere you go.
When I think of Ms Frizzle, I think Solar System. I absolutely love this necklace! The different colors and sizes of the bead makes it so visually interesting, and I think it's cool how you can't really tell what it's supposed to be just by glancing at it. It's a beautiful piece that any teacher or science nerd would treasure.
The episode "The Stories Glaciers Tell" is the inspiration for this lovely snowflake pendant. I love the colors and think that it would be a novel conversation piece.
How fun is this nerves dress? This pattern is so visually interesting, and yet a subtle way to show off your science-nerd tendencies.
Episode 12 is all about alternative power sources. These propeller earrings would work great for a teacher or an airplane enthusiast.
Some of the episodes were harder to find gifts for than others. The layers of the ocean theme was very challenging. I finally decided to link to this dress, because the ombre effect reminded me of the ocean.
