Gifts for Children Who Love Chickens (a gift guide)
Since I made the frogs gift guide, Dragonfly has decided that chickens are her favorite thing. She has been scheming for months how to get a chick as a pet and how to keep it a chick. I found several chicken toys that she'd like for Christmas (and a few extras). Here's what I've discovered:
This plush house is full of hens! They would be so fun for a family who already keeps chickens or who has dreams of having them. Every one of these hens is soft and snuggly for hugs and would be much more tolerable of smothering than live chickens. Click the picture to see the whole flock.
Dragonfly has been talking about these little chicks for months! They're typically more associated with Easter than with the winter holidays, but they'll be just the right fit for a stocking stuffer. If your kid wants chicks in December, click on the picture.
This hen looks SO soft that I just want to touch it! I think Dragonfly would love this toy, too. There are several varieties of hens for sale, so you can put together your own hen house. Perhaps with pretend nesting boxes? There's even a proud, colorful rooster. One of my favorite things about them is that there are so many to chose from that you can buy one for every kid and not repeat! Click on the picture or the links to see the line up.
This silly chicken clucks, wiggles, and lays eggs. I don't think it would be very good for snuggling, but it would be great for causing a laugh. Click on the picture to buy the silly chicken.
Two types of chicken life cycle sets help make an obsession with poultry into a learning experience. We own the Safari set and appreciate its 3D nature. The plastic egg set is on our homeschool list (perhaps if we ever hatch eggs), because they show how the chicken develops within the shell. Both sets would be good for chicken-loving kids. Dragonfly has had her eye on the frog model for a few months. She doesn't know this one exists, but I'm sure she'd want it if she knew. At over 30 pieces, I don't know if the kids are quite ready for science models yet. The company also makes a horse model, a T-Rex, and a bunch more. It would be easy to find something for any animal enthusiast. Buy them by clicking on any of the links or the picture.
Count Your Chickens is a cooperative (non-competitive) game for kids 3 and up. It encourages taking turns, counting, and working together. Perfect for a daycare or kindergarten class! Click on the picture to learn more.
If your child is ready to move beyond plush chickens to keeping real poultry, then this book would make a great gift. It covers breeds, coops, handling, chicks, and treat recipes. Grab the book by clicking on the picture.
Hen keeping means egg collecting! This adorable chicken apron is child-sized and outfitted with pockets for holding the eggs. I love the red ruffle on it! Click on the picture to purchase.
I hope you found the blog post interesting. Come back tomorrow for Day 17 of my "All Wrapped Up" holiday gift guide series!
